This is a funny book that made my third grade students smile。

I'll admit it's clever。 It starts out quite strong and original, but then enter the robbers。 I don't know where they came from, I don't understand why they need to be there when something more relative to the context of the animal setting of the story could have given the same message and story arc without taking the reader out of the story。 And then I couldn't understand all the changes that happened at the end。 I would have been happy if all that happened was that the horse ate a cupcake inste I'll admit it's clever。 It starts out quite strong and original, but then enter the robbers。 I don't know where they came from, I don't understand why they need to be there when something more relative to the context of the animal setting of the story could have given the same message and story arc without taking the reader out of the story。 And then I couldn't understand all the changes that happened at the end。 I would have been happy if all that happened was that the horse ate a cupcake instead of the two characters becoming so similar to each other。 。。。more

I love the illustrations, humor, and story! One of my favorite unicorn stories I've been reading (and there have been a lot, if you haven't noticed)。 Great story about not comparing yourself to others and loving yourself。 I love the illustrations, humor, and story! Adorable and a wonderful lesson on friendship。 Gonna buy this one!

Adorable。 Unicorn and Horse live together in the same paddock。 Unicorn eats pink cupcakes。 Horse… does not。 A wonderful story with beautiful illustrations about envy, valuing who you are and realizing we are all sometimes unicorns and all sometimes a bit of horse。

This is a charming book about appreciating differences。 Unicorn seems like he has all of the advantages over horse, but it turns out that horse has a lot to offer as well。 The illustrations are beautiful。

Who doesn’t love a unicorn book!? That unicorn was what you think a unicorn looks like as a kid。 The story was so cute and sweet。 Truly enjoyed。

Unicorn is handsome and cheerful, colorful and popular。 Horse is not。 When unicorn is kidnapped who will come to the rescue。 A fun read aloud that kids will love。

Horse is plain and frumpy。 He's jealous of the gorgeous Unicorn, who eats pink cupcakes and makes rainbows。 Unicorn dances around spreading cheer and sunshine。 Horse eats hay and scowls at everyone with a grumpy attitude。 Can these two ever resolve their differences and becomes friends? This story is hilarious! Unicorn and Horse share a pen in this entertaining picture-book examination of jealousy, and the possibility of friendship between two very different individuals。 While Unicorn has every conceivable charm and appeal - a sapphire horn, silver coat, rainbow mane, white teeth - his more pedestrian pen-mate is just a plain, brown horse。 While Unicorn sings and dances, and eats pink cupcakes, Horse huffs, stands in the rain, and munches on hay。 Horse cannot stand the happier, more popular Unicorn, un Unicorn and Horse share a pen in this entertaining picture-book examination of jealousy, and the possibility of friendship between two very different individuals。 While Unicorn has every conceivable charm and appeal - a sapphire horn, silver coat, rainbow mane, white teeth - his more pedestrian pen-mate is just a plain, brown horse。 While Unicorn sings and dances, and eats pink cupcakes, Horse huffs, stands in the rain, and munches on hay。 Horse cannot stand the happier, more popular Unicorn, until the day he (Unicorn) is kidnapped, and a choice must be made: ride to the rescue, or ignore the colorful equine's plight。。。A sweet story of overcoming jealousy, and learning to accept yourself and others is paired with bright, colorful artwork in Unicorn (and Horse)。 With the current crop of unicorn-themed picture-books - Uni the Unicorn by Amy Krouse Rosenthal, Thelma the Unicorn by Aaron Blabey, You Don't Want a Unicorn! by Ame Dyckman, to name just a few - this new title from author David Miles and illustrator Hollie Mengert is sure to find an appreciative audience。 I'm not familiar with the publisher - Familius Publishing, based in Sanger, California - but according to their website they publish books whose intention is to promote happy families。 Given that this is so, it's difficult not to read this one as a tale of sibling rivalry, and how that dynamic is replaced with a healthier, less resentful relationship。 However you choose to interpret the story, this is just an engaging little book, with fun, expressive artwork and a heartwarming conclusion。 Recommended to all young unicorn (and horse) fans, and to anyone looking for picture-books about jealousy。 。。。more

Unicorn and Horse aren't the same。 Horse is a bit resentful of this, and though the book doesn't say so I imagine he feels inferior。 But when Unicorn is in trouble Horse is the only one who can save him。 This seems to help Horse's self-confidence and they are able to be friends。 Unicorn and Horse aren't the same。 Horse is a bit resentful of this, and though the book doesn't say so I imagine he feels inferior。 But when Unicorn is in trouble Horse is the only one who can save him。 This seems to help Horse's self-confidence and they are able to be friends。 。。。more

3。5 stars This was shared at WyomingReads book selection and at first I wasn't impressed。 But it has grown on me and my kids enjoyed it。 This is a Unicorn and this is not (it's a Horse)。 The book goes over the differences。 The illustrations have great emotion and facial expressions。 But when bad guys come, Horse has a chance to prove why horses are as great as unicorns。 A better story than most unicorn books。 3。5 stars This was shared at WyomingReads book selection and at first I wasn't impressed。 But it has grown on me and my kids enjoyed it。 This is a Unicorn and this is not (it's a Horse)。 The book goes over the differences。 The illustrations have great emotion and facial expressions。 But when bad guys come, Horse has a chance to prove why horses are as great as unicorns。 A better story than most unicorn books。 。。。more

I read this for my mythical creature storytime this week。 Unicorn and Horse are very different, and Horse has some trouble feeling inadequate。 I liked the story, the illustrations are expressive and bright, and I LOVED that both Unicorn and Horse are male。 (Woohoo! I don't like you!" said Horse。But what he meant was, "I wish I were like you。" Unicorn and Horse live in the same forest, hang out with the same animals and even do the same things。。。but there's a BIG difference in Unicorn's life and Horse's。 Unicorn dances。 Tra la la!Horse sits grumpy。 Blah blah blah。 Everything unicorn does is pretty and perfect。。。and Horse HATES Unicorn because of that。 Unicorn makes everything cheery。 REALLY cheery。 And yet。。。。Horse can't help but be jealous。When malicious robbers kidnap Unicorn, everything hinges on Horse。 Will Horse step up to the plate? Or will he finally be free of Unicorn? Unicorn gone, Horse may finally have a chance to Horse thought。 And thought。 And thought。 Then he ran。 As you may have been able to tell - I absolutely LOVE unicorn books (and horse books), so when I was given the opportunity to read and review this gem, I leapt at it。And let me tell you - this book did NOT disappoint。I LOVED both the inane cheeriness of Unicorn and the doom-and-gloom grump of Horse。 I honestly couldn't decide which one was more like me - they're both my spirit animals。The plot was really well done (for such a short story)。 Miles is able, with just a few words and expressive images, create a wonderfully fleshed out world。And I think this book works really well for teaching kids about recognizing and managing jealousy。 Horse lets his resentment build。。。and build。。。and build。。。until all his thoughts are consumed with hating unicorn for doing (relatively) benign things。 (I can just see Horse's inner dialogue。。。Look at Unicorn, spreading love and peace。。。makes me sick!)And then, Horse is forced to see things from a different perspective and grows from that experience。I think we can all relate to times when we are Unicorn。。。and when we are Horse。 (Though。。。to be honest。。。I may be a bit more Horse than Unicorn)。 I also LOVED the illustrations。 Picture books absolutely hinge on the pictures and wow。 Hats off to Hollie Mengert - she was absolute aces。 Just a few lines and shading。。。and BOOM。 Magic。The characters were brilliantly drawn, wonderfully expressive and hilarious to boot!Highly recommended for the little unicorn lover (or horse lover) in your life! With thanks to the author and the publisher for a free copy in exchange for an honest reviewAnd here's another video featuring this book!Oh。 My。 Gosh。 I just did my very first "All My Books" video - starring Familius Publishing!
